2002-01-16 - 10:48 p.m. Okay, this is going to be both on this page and on my Moviecritic page. I've decided to do something different with it for now. See, when I started the page I was living in Belfast, Maine, where there is a really cool movie theater. I learned to love this theater, even though it was small and only had three screens. Most big theaters you end up walking down some neutral-colored hallway, looking for the particular theater number for your show. There's something really great about instead walking into the "City" theater, or the "Star" theater, or for their most popular films, walking downstairs, past a gray elephant statue, through winding hallways with paintings all over the walls to a beautiful underground theater with balcony seating called "Dreamland." Unfortunately, now I'm stuck in Rockport, where the closet theater shows mainly movies I've never heard of, isn't all that comfortable, and is way too big to ever get that cool Full Theater feeling. So I almost never go to the movies, and when I do, it's because I *really* want to see the movie, so I don't think of it in a movie critic sense, I just sit back and enjoy. So to keep Moviecritic from dying, without feeling like I need to review the four movies I've seen in the theaters in the last five months, I've come up with a new idea. Lately, when I haven't been broke, I've been renting frighteningly large numbers of movies, because downtown I can get ones that aren't new releases for a dollar each, so I spend major portions of the weekend watching movies. So here's my plan. Pick a movie you want me to review. Maybe you think it's something that needs to be reviewed because it's an old favorite of yours that not enough people have seen. Maybe it's a horrible waste of celluloid and you want me to tear into it. Whichever. Where I said I wouldn't waste six dollars to see a terrible movie in the theaters, I will waste a dollar to see a crap movie for the fun of writing about how bad it is. So send away, and I'll start picking movies to watch and write about. If a request is made, it may be filled, but there is no guarantee. and it may be a while from now. I'm going to pick the ones that seem the most interesting. So if you want to see a review on moviecritic, just send me something about it, a title, maybe a short description. But do NOT tell me the end or any sort of major plot points that you wouldn't know from reading the back of the box or watching a preview or something, or I won't review the movie, and may just never watch it simply out of spite. Yeah, so there ya go. Send me your requests. I'll be renting movies this weekend whether you request anything or not, so this is mainly a way for me to have an easier time choosing what to watch. And as a final explanation, this is not something where I want to write about it, then debate all the finer points of your favorite movie because you disagree with this thing or that thing I said. I'm going to put my feelings about it down, like them or hate them, it's your choice. Oh, and there's not much I can do if the movie place simply doesn't have the movies, so yeah, sorry if that comes up.
